Margaret Matzenauer, Mezzo-Soprano Margaret Matzenauer replaced Emma Calvé, who was originally scheduled to appear. The substitution was noted in the New York Times (Nov. 14, 1923, pg. 18) as follows: "Margaret Matzenauer, not Emma Calvé, sang to an audience assembled in Carnegie Hall last night at a benefit performance for the Bethany Day Nursery. It was to have been Mme. Calvé's first appearance of the local seasons, but posters at each door of the hall told that the French artist could not appear, and that through the courtesy of Gatti-Casazza, of the Metropolitan, Mme. Matzenauer would give a full program instead. Those disappointed ones who had come intent to hear Calvé were told to call today on her manager and have their tickets refunded."
