According to an artilcle in the New York Times, "Queen Stella of the Gonzales Tribe of Gitane" was of royal blood and ruled over a tribe of 4,400 Moorish gypsies. She came to the United States in 1893 and was "taken up by Society"; she offered her services for charities. ("Gypsy Queen Entertains," April 13, 1897, pg. 7).</rdfs:comment>
