Schmidt-Herbert String Quartet Note that it is not clear from program whether the quartet intended to perform the entire "Emperor" String Quartet of Haydn, or merely the second movement (program lists only "Emperor Variations"). A review in the New York Sun ("The Schmidt-Herbert Quartet," March 26, 1893, pg. 4) does not even mention the Haydn, so it may not have been performed.
