This meeting was presented unter the auspices of a committee consisting of Paul D. Cravath, W. H. Baldwin Jr., and Henry W. Taft. It was held in response to a pogrom that took place on Easter weekend (beginning April 6), 1903, in Kishinev (Kischineff), Russia, in which some 49 Jews were killed.
