- According to the review published in the New York Times, on of the A strings in the bass register of the piano broke during the second movement of Rachmaninoff's Piano Sonata in B-flat Minor, Op. 36. Franz Mohr from Steinway came onstage and removed the broken string, after which Horowitz resumed the piece from the beginning of the middle section of the same movement.
