  • Presented by the Weill Music Institute in partnership with the Young People's Chorus of New York City WORLD PREMIERE of John Corigliano's UPON JULIA'S CLOTHES WORLD PREMIERE of Douglas J. Cuomo's HOW TO SURVIVE IN THE WOODS About Transient Glory® Symposium (adapted from text on www.carnegiehall.org): For the Carnegie Hall Choral Institute’s first season, the Weill Music Institute partnered with the Young People’s Chorus of New York City (YPC) for the Transient Glory Symposium, a three-day workshop that focused on training choral conductors to work with newly composed, serious music for young voices. During this workshop, participants explored in depth this new genre in three ways. On one day, they prepared for the public performances to be presented. Another day, they explored the literature by learning, examining, and interpreting a range of pieces written from the Transient Glory series. Sessions on another day focused on effectively presenting the music to singers and audiences through conducting lessons, score analysis, and presentation methods. This workshop was an offshoot of YPC’s Transient Glory concert series. For this Transient Glory Symposium, eight conducting fellows from around the country were selected by application and joined by eight associates to work with Francisco J. Núñez and the Young People’s Chorus of New York City. All of the music studied during the symposium was performed in three nights of concerts at different New York City venues: (Le) Poisson Rouge, the 92nd Street Y, and Carnegie Hall’s Zankel Hall. Each concert featured choral works for young voices conducted by symposium fellows, chamber music selections by featured composers performed by the JACK Quartet, newly commissioned world premieres, as well as interviews with the composers hosted by John Schaefer of WNYC, New York Public Radio.
