  • Entered from New York Times article ("7-Cent Fare Order to be Signed Today," May 9, 1928, pg. 1); stated time is approximate. Article reads, in part: "A resolution calling on the Board of Estimate to serve immediate notice of recapture upon the Interborough Rapid Transit Company was unanimously adopted last night at a mass meeting at Carnegie Hall under the auspices of the Action Committe of the Socialist Party. Embodied also in the resolution was a demand for municipal operation of all rapid transit lines. The 2,000 men and women who attended the meeting - most of them members of the needle trades - voted to form a "Five-Cent Fare League" to fight against a fare increase."
