- Entered from New York Times articles ("Thurston Agrees to Face Spiritualist," Oct. 9, 1927, pg. 12, and "Objector Upsets Spiritism Debate," Oct. 10, 1927, pg. 23); stated time is approximate. The Oct. 9 article states, in part:
"Howard Thurston, the magician, will appear in the chapter room of Carnegie Hall tonight to meet a challenge made by Arthur A. Ford, head of the First Spiritualist Church, as to the magician's ability to reproduce spiritualistic phenomena. Mr. Ford announced yesterday that he would offer the magician $10,000 to prove statements he said the magician had made regarding spiritualism."
