WMI Professional Training Workshop: Dave Douglas Workshop: Creative Composition and Improvisation
From Feb. 7-12, 2010, trumpeter-composer Dave Douglas guided young jazz and creative composer-performers through an exploration of new works and innovative collaborations in this Professional Training Workshop. Throughout the week, participants worked with Douglas and guest artists pianist Uri Caine and drummer Clarence Penn on the creation, rehearsal, and production of original works that involve improvisation. A variety of sessions on dealt with composition and scoring, ear training, rehearsal techniques, assessment of developing works, and improvisation. The week culminated in this final performance in Zankel Hall with works created by the workshop's young artists and Dave Douglas.
