All-Mozart Program
Weill Music Institute Professional Training Workshop: Leon Fleisher Master Class: Mozart Piano Concertos
Four pianists were selected to participate in this two-part workshop. From October 27 to November 2, Fleisher worked one-on-one at Carnegie Hall with each student on his or her concerto; the master classes on October 31 and November 1 were a part of this process and allowed participants the chance to share their progress with the public (performances consisted of excerpts from the listed works, with Eric Zuber playing the orchestral accompaniments on the second piano). From December 13 to 16, Fleisher and the four pianists continued the preparation in Philadelphia with the Curtis Chamber Orchestra. The workshop schedule included lectures by theorist Carl Schachter, musicologist Neal Zaslaw, and pianist Malcolm Bilson. The workshop ended with two performances in Zankel Hall on December 17 at 7:30PM and December 18 at 3PM, with Leon Fleisher conducting.
