  • Pittsburgh Courier Charity Fund's 7th Annual Concert at Midnight, Featuring Courier's Theatrical Poll Winners Benefit: St. Charles School and Community Center Fund According to a review published by the New York Amsterdam News, one hour of this concert was broadcast nationwide by the Mutual Broadcasting System. The review also confirms that Sugar Ray Robinson made an appearance playing drums with Lionel Hampton's band, and that the Duke Hampton Boy and Girl Band, featuring trombonist Slide Hampton making his Carnegie Hall debut one day short of his 20th birthday, also appeared. The Indiana Historical Society has a photograph of the Duke Hampton Family Band, in which Slide, who played trombone left-handed, can clearly be seen standing fifth from left (<a rel="noopener noreferrer" class="external" href="https://images.indianahistory.org/digital/collection/dc010/id/44" target="_blank">Link to image and description</a>). An advertisement in the New York Amsterdam News from April 12 lists Ed Sullivan, Ralph Cooper, and Fred Robbins as additional emcees, and Lucky Millinder, Louis Jordan, and Larry Darnell as additional performers, but they are not mentioned in the review.
