Note in program states: "This concert is being given in celebration of the choice of Lionel Hampton and his organization as New Band of the Year by the distinguished jazz critics voting in Esquire's annual jazz poll."
Some details added/clarified from recording and from George T. Simon, “Hampton Concert Socks; Carnegie Rocks”, Metronome (NY, May 1945), 9, 31. Simon indicates that "I Can't Get Started" was included in the part of the program that featured an added string section, between "Where or When" and "Three Minutes with Three Notes." Printed program lists "Barry's Idea" rather than "Red Cross" as the selection featuring Esquire poll winners.
