According to the New York Times review, the performance mixed "live adaptations of Mr. Armstrongs recordings of [the 1920s], color film of Mr. Armstrong talking about his early days and singing with Mahalia Jackson, brief excerpts of his original recordings, a few samples of early New Orleans dance music and some jazz improvising on tunes associated with Mr. Armstrong".
