According to the New York Times, at her April 9, 1965 recital, Elisabeth Schwarzkopf suffered "a freak swallowing accident that made it impossible for her to sing the concluding four songs on her program. "Something got stuck in my windpipe," the soprano explained to her audience when it happened. "I'll finish the recital next time."" These songs were from a set of six by Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari that were intended to be U.S. premieres. Ms. Schwarzkopf performed the complete set on this recital.
