- PREMIERE of Florence Aylward's BELOVED, IT IS MORN
Note that although the New York Times review of this recital ("Richard Crooks Wins Plaudits on Return," Oct. 27, 1927, pg. 32) identifies this song as "from the "Songs of Solomon," in an unproduced new work "The Sholemite Maid," no information could be found on the unproduced work (opera?). However, references to an earlier version of a song by this same name, to a text by Emily Hickey, were numerous, so this is the work entered here. Identified as a "first performance," given the date spread between the date of composition noted in other references (1896) and the performance, it is assumed this was perhaps at most a U.S. premiere. It is possible that the song was re-purposed into a later work called The Sholemite [Shulemite] Maid.
