Some selections clarified by review; the song listed simply as "Nuit" in program is believed to be "Nuit sans fin" from 1898, since Olin Downes identifies the songs from the group in which this was included as belonging to Debussy's "middle period". The only other Debussy song with "nuit" in the title comes from 1880, composed when Debussy was only 18. Encores also entered from review; Downes indicates that Gieseking played "a number of encores", but does not identify them.
