  • U.S. PREMIERES of all works on program Gustav Mahler was originally scheduled to conduct Chabrier's "Espana", but was too ill. His final CH appearance was 2/21/1911; he sailed for Europe on 4/8/1911 and died in Vienna on 5/18/1911. New York Philharmonic concertmaster Theodore Spiering conducted most of the Philharmonic concerts in his absence. Review indicates that although Mahler was listed in program to conduct "Espana", Kurt Schindler conducted the entire concert, and "Espana" was omitted.
